33002 was started for the first time in preservation today. The successful start-up is the culmination of three years restoration at Buckfastleigh, although more electrical work needs to be completed before the loco can move under its own power. Photos here and here

26010 moved south to Carnforth from Bo'ness behind a WCRC class 33 to take part in the open day at the West Coast depot this weekend.

The times for the additional diesel turns at the GWR on August 13 & 27 have altered thus; 1130, 1415 & 1635 from Toddington & 1215,1500 & 1700 from Cheltenham.

The D1015 railtour from Paddington to Swansea on August 9th has been cancelled because of problems pathing the train on the return journey via Hereford.

Barrow Hill based 45105 has been started for the first time in around four years. A photo is here. The same weekend saw long term restoration project 26007 move under it own power for the first time in several years

The GWR are running two 'green timetable' extra trains on the following dates which are diesel hauled; 13th August will be 47701 & 27th August will be 31162. Departure times from Toddington are at 10.30, 13.00 and 15.15 and from the Racecourse at 11.15, 14.00 and 16.00. Each day gives approx 60 miles of haulage behind the locos.

Due to the change of ownership 55016 will not be fulfilling its booked running days at Peak Rail. HNRC have stated that the loco has been purchased as a commercial venture and expect it to be re-sold.

The WLA have announced that D1062 will re-enter traffic at the Severn Valley Railway on August 16th working the SVR diesel diagram, The loco is undergoing a repaint into BR maroon at Kidderminster and will return to Bridgnorth at the end of the month for final checks and an exam.

55016 which is currently at Peak Rail has been sold to HNRC. The loco will work the Peak Rail diesel diagram on the 30th August.

33109 has arrived at Embsay to take part in the lines diesel event this weekend. A revised timetable is here

40145 hauled visitors to the East Lancs event away from the line on Tuesday; D1023 was dropped at Barrow Hill whilst 31108 and 45041 were left at Butterley and 37906 returned to the Severn Valley Railway. Agreement has been reached for 37901, which is unable to return to Llangollen, to remain at the East Lancs for the rest of the year.

The Mid Hants Railway are running a special diesel diagram on August 2nd utilising new arrival 33053 along with resident 33208 before the latter is taken out of traffic for repairs. More details are here

The former 56003 and now 56312 underwent testing at the Nene Valley Railway last week and will shortly leave for the RVEL workshops in Derby for loadbanking and a return to the mainline. Photos here and here

After a re-evaluation of its stock the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway has decided to dispose of the TSO coaches from the former Gatwick Express set that it acquired shortly after the line re-opened

Former Brush Type 4 Fund loco 47295 has left the MOD depot at Ashchurch and moved to storage at Long Marston for a possible new career with HNRC

50040 will leave the Coventry Railway Centre at the end of this week and move to the Sims scrapyard in Halesowen and is expected to by scrapped shortly after arrival. The final stripping and removal of flamecuts has taken place. A photo is here

47701 has arrived at the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway from Long Marston for its visit to take part in the GWR Diesel Event on July 4-6. A photo is here

The West Somerset Railway are suffering a steam loco shortage and one daily diagram will be diesel hauled until further notice and on the following dates all trains will be diesel hauled Friday 27 June, Friday 4 July, Tuesday 8 July, Wednesday 9 July and Thursday 10 July. The line will work to an ammended green timetable and motive power will be one or two from 25173, 33048 and 47840.

Cotswold Rails 33202 will be the visiting loco for the Dean Forest Railways Diesel Event on July 12th.

50026 has left the RVEL workshops in Derby and moved by road to its long time home depot of Old Oak Common where the loco will be re-united with its power unit. A photo is here

The Brush Type 4 Fund have sold the grounded body of 47295 to HNRC. The loco was purchased by the fund in 2003 minus bogies as a donor loco for 47376.

55009 has moved by road from Barrow Hill to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton to participate in the 'Napier PowerEx 200' event this weekend. More details are on the DPS website

45041 will replace the unavailable 46045 for the East Lancs July Diesel Event.

ELR based 33109 will be the visiting engine for the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway Diesel Event on July 18-20. The Crompton will work alongside resident locos D9513 31119 31435 and 47004. Shunters D2203 08054 and 08773 will work shuttles. A timetable and loco roster is here

A Virgin Trains Class 57/3 will visit the East Lancs on July 2nd to take part in the ELR Diesel Week. The 57 will work trains on the Wednesday only.

A recent working party has made good progress on 50050 at Yeovil with the loco undergoing repairs to the bodywork prior to a repaint into BR blue livery. The faulty component in the defective KV10 load regulator, which has prevented the loco taking power, has also been identified and a replacement part is being sought. A photo is here

50008 is expected to be released from LNWR at Crewe in the Autumn. The loco is having a new set of cannon tubes made which will allow the loco to be re-united with its bogies. The welding work is finished and the engine and generator will be installed in the coming months. It will then move to the Nene Valley Railway for painting and running in.

D182 (46045) has unfortunately been withdrawn from traffic due to corrosion in the exhaust silencer which has led to considerable contamination in the engine room (and particularly the generator). As a consequence the loco will not be attending the ELR gala as was planned. The Peak Locomotive Company are sorry that D182 has had to be pulled from the event at the last minute, but the ELR understand the position that the group find themselves in with D182. The ELR event organisers are currently sourcing a replacement. A timetable and loco roster for the event is here (but subject to alteration)

20154 has moved from Ruddington to the Foxfield Railway to take part in the lines Diesel Event this weekend. A photo is here. The loco will remain at the railway until mid August.

Recent loco moves has seen 31108 and D1023 transferred to the East Lancs Railway for the July Diesel Week. Both locos had been in attendance at the KWVR event with 20087. The South Devon Railway locos were taken south to the West Somerset Railway - photo here to take part in this weekends Mixed Traffic Event.

37407 and 37424 have been brought south to Crewe from Motherwell & Mossend in a WCRC convoy and will be forwarded to the Churnet Valley Railway by road.

The Brush Type 4 Funds 47746 was started up at Long Marston on Tuesday and despite a minor electrical fault the engine ran with no problems.

47701 has been added to the bill of the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway Diesel Event on July 4-6. The former Saint Andrew is stored at nearby Long Marston and has not worked a train since 2003 during its time with FM Rail. A timetable and loco roster for the three day event is here

The Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway are holding a diesel event on 26/27 July which will feature 37216 & 73128 as well as the recently arrived 3-Cep unit. More will be detailsavailable nearer the time

37023 is expected to arrive at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway in mid July. The loco has been acquired from DRS and is undergoing bodywork attention at the Brush works in Loughborough before moving to South Wales.

31467 has left the ELR for Kingsbury scrapyard - photo here - and 31556 will make the same journey next week. 31467 arrived at the ELR in 2000 for restoration but was later stripped for spares. 31556 also saw some restoration work undertaken before work stopped on the loco during 2002. Another former preserved 31 heading for Kingsbury is 31113 which arrived at Chinnor in August 2004 but the death of the owner had forced the locos re-sale. Photo is here

The AC Loco Groups 73138 is set to leave preservation in a swap deal with Network Rail which will see the Barrow Hill based preservation group take ownership of a class 86/4.

33111 is to move from Barrow Hill to Swanage on Friday and will make its preservation debut on June 13 working the DMU diagram. The Crompton will work the same diagram on June 14 & 15. A photo is here

40145 worked a Bury - York special class 6 freight on the 28th returning the Network Rail Water Cannon train that had been on test at the ELR.

D1062 ran light engine from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster on the 30th May for a repaint into BR maroon. The work is expected to take around four weeks to complete. Also at the SVR, D821 underwent a light engine test run on May 24. A photo is here. The loco then worked the following weekeknds diesel diagram but unfortunately failed with radiator problems. The DTG has decided to withdraw D821 from service and complete a rebuild of both cooler groups.

The Heritage Shunter Trust have acquired Barrow Hill based D9500 for restoration. The locos good external condition belies the fact that the power unit is in very poor condition as are the tyres and electrics.

Event news:
The first draft of the timetable for the GCRN Diesel Event on 14/15 June is available here. The event is to feature mixed trains which were once fairly common and was last seen on the West Highland Line in the 1980's.
The Wensleydale Railway will be holding its first ever Diesel Event on September 20 & 21 and hope to have 31108 50007 and 55019 as the visiting locos to work alongside 03144 and 47715. More details will be available nearer the date.

50026 will soon be leaving the RVEL workshops in Derby and will move to Old Oak Common where agreement has been reached with Axiom Rail for the remaining work on 50026 to be carried out there.
HNRC have acquired both 31166 and 31188 from store at the Wensleydale Railway.
D9521 has moved from the Barry Island Railway to the Mid Norfolk Railway for its summer visit. Meanwhile D9520 has moved to the National Railway Museum after its appearance at the Appleby Frodingham open day. D9520 will work trains in the NRM yard on 27 & 28 May.

33053 is to move to the Mid Hants Railway for an extended loan period as cover for MHR regular 33208 which is to come out of traffic for maintenance work.
73119 has returned from exile in Scotland and has been transported south to Fairwater Yard in Taunton where the ED will act as back up for the current yard pilot 73133.
20154 will move from Ruddington to the Foxfield Railway in mid June for two month visit to the former colliery line. The 20 will make its first runs at the Diesel Event on June 21/22. More details are here
West Coast Railways are holding an open day at Carnforth on July 26/27 - a rare chance to see inside the former Steamtown site. Class classes 08, 20, 25, 33, 37, 47, 57 and 66 will be in attendance as well as some yet to be announced visiting locos.

47192 has returned to the Railway Age in Crewe for the summer to take part in the centres 21st Anniversary event. It is expected to return to Cheddleton later this year.
The Mark Elderkin Railtour to Weymouth with D1015 has been cancelled because of low bookings.

40145 will work a transfer move from York Works to the East Lancs Railway tomorrow consisiting of a Rail Head Treatment Train for testing on the ELR. Times are here
An updated version of the Swanage Diesel Event timetable is here. The changes relate to 07007 which, due to its low top speed, is not able to undrtake full trips of the line. 66724 hauled 20096 and 37275 south from Barrow Hill yesterday.
The Severn Valley Railway has approved an increase in summer diesel loco haulage for 2008 with 37906, D821, 50044, 50049 and D1013 all rostered for Saturday diesel turns. It is also expected that D1062 will return to traffic during the summer. Dates are now on the events page

56040 was started for the first time in preservation yesterday at Dereham with no major problems coming to light. Updates on the restoration of 'Oysermouth' can be found on the Class 56 Group website
26001 has left the Nene Valley Railway and has moved the to the Caledonian Railway for a summer visit.
55022 has been unable to work its booked tour to Oban today because the loco is still undergoing maintenance at Barrow Hill. The tour will be worked by two class 37's

50049 ran light from Cardiff Canton - Kidderminster today going via Tyseley to collect D444 and both locos will take part in the forthcoming SVR Diesel Event. The Saturday timetable has been re-issued and can be downloaded here.
40145 has returned to Bury after featuring in the NVR class 40 event last weekend. A photo is here
DRS 37, 37610 visited the Great Central Railway for a private charter last week and will also work this saturdays diesel diagram using 25035 as a brake translator. Full details are here. The loco will leave the railway shortly afterwards.
25322 has received a repaint into its 'ice cream van' livery applied during its latter days in service with BR. The 'Rat' was repainted for a EMRPS photo charter. Photos are here and here. The loco still requires mechanical repairs before it is able to work a train.
News on ex-preserved 37s; 37198 has been removed from EMR Kingsbury and transported to Quorn on the GCR for storage - a photo is here - and former Type 3 Traction loco 37158 has been cut up at Carnforth. The loco passed into WCR ownership in the deal that saw 37248 become a T3T loco.

40145 has arrived at the Nene Valley Railway and whilst running light engine from Bescot the 40 was called upon to assist an EWS freight which had taken the wrong route at Nuneaton and 40145 hauled the train back to Nuneaton station.
The Dartmoor Railway ceased running trains yesterday as a result of the railways owners Ealing Community Transport placing the line up for sale. It is not expected to re-open unless a new owner is found for the 15 mile line. The Weardale Railway is as yet is unaffected despite it also being made available for sale by ECT.
26001 will be the visiting engine for the Caledonian Railway diesel event on May 3-5 working alongside 26014 and 27024. More details are here
D832 has left the East Lancs Railway for its summer visit to the West Somerset Railway

37901 has arrived at the Severn Valley Railway ready to take part in the lines Diesel Event this month. Also leaving Llangollen this week will be visiting ED 73101 which will return to the Avon Valley Railway.

The Paignton & Dartmouth Railway are holding a 'Heritage Weekend' this coming Saturday & Sunday (19/20 April) and extra diagram will be in operation utilising 25185. The 25 will work five round trips on both days.

The Churnet Valley Railway has announced that Deltic D9016 will be the visiting engine for its Diesel Event at the end of May. The event will also feature, subject to the road movements taking place, recently preserved 37407 and 37424 on static display. Both of which are to be based at the line for restoration. The gala will run over three days; May 30/31 & June 1st.

The Weardale Railway diesel event that was advertised to take place this weekend will now be a run as 'Open Day' with the diesel fleet on display at Wolsingham depot. ED 73134 will work three round trips of the line on both days.
The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre will be hosting a DPS Deltic as part of the D Napier & Son Bi-Centenary Celebrations on June 21/22. The loco will work shuttle trains on the up yard running line.
The South East Loco Group have taken delivery of an overhauled class 33 traction motor which will be held as a spare for the groups two locomotives. Photos here and here

20050 has moved from Barrow Hill to the NRM Locomotion site at Shildon where it will appear on shuttle trains at the Diesel Event this weekend. D1023 will make the trip from York tomorrow behind a WCRC loco. EWS are sending Class 60, 60074 and DRS will also be supplying traction. More details are here

37190 has arrived at the Great Central Railway to take part in this weekends three day diesel event. A photo is here. The large logo 37 is deputising for 40012 which has unfortunately not been able to make the move because of problems arranging the locos transfer by road.
73110 which has been in store at Long Marston is to move to the GCRN at Ruddington and after repairs will enter service in time for the railways diesel event on June 14/15. Meanwhile leaving Ruddington will be the MCTA's 20048 which will be moving to the MR-B at Butterley.
The Swanage Railway are holding a Branchline Weekend this weekend April 12/13 which will feature both 33012 and 47635. A timetable is here. 47635 will also work the Swanage evening services on Friday April 11 in place of the DMU.

GWR based 47376 underwent a test run on Sunday following engine repairs but after inspection it was found that further cylinder liners are leaking and the loco will be taken out of traffic for repairs. The loco will be sidelined the foreseeable future as the priority for the Brush Type 4 Fund will be to undertake the work required to re-certify the steam heat boiler on 47105. 73101 has left the Severn Valley Railway and has moved to Llangollen to take part in the lines Diesel Event on April 11-13. A timetable and loco roster is here
The Locomotion Diesel Event at Shildon on April 12-13 will see a variety of locos on display and working shuttle services. Full details can be found here
Spitfire Railtours are operating a charter on the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway on June 21st using Class 25 D7535. It will be an out and back trip from Paignton run in conjunction with a Spitfire tour from Crewe. More details are here
The full line up for the West Somerset Mixed Traffic Event on June 13-15 will see SDR residents 20110 25262 and 37037 call in on their way back to Devon from the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway event. Class 14 D9520 will make an appearance along with ELR based Warship D832 which will be at the WSR for the summer season. The home fleet will be D9526 25173 33048 47840 and making a return to traffic will be D7017. More details are here

The line-up for the Severn Valley Railway Diesel Event is visiting locos 33021, 37901 and 50049 working alongside resident locos 20188, D821, D1013 and 73006. Shunters in use will be D3022 and 12099. A Colas Rail class 47 will also be in attendance. The event will be held over three days on 24-26 April.
Following Saturdays railtour 55022 ran light from Crewe to Barrow Hill where the Deltic will undergo a 'C' exam as well as a number of modifications including work to convert the former boiler water tanks into fuel tanks which will enhance the locomotives operating capabilities.
Full details and timetables for the Bodmin and Wenford Railway Diesel Event this weekend can be found here. A late addition to the line up is the other operational Colas Rail class 47, 47727 which will work alongside 47749 and the home preserved fleet.
08881 has arrived at Toddington to take part in this weekends Diesel Event at the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway. A photo is here

37254 has left its restoration base and has moved to the Spa Valley Railway where it will remain for an extended visit. The loco has undergone a successful test run since arriving at the railway. Photos are here here here and here
D9524 has been privately purchased from RMS Locotec and work is underway to return the unique class 14 to working order at the Elsecar Railway.
The South Devon Railway have announced that 25185 will visit the line from the neighbouring Paignton & Dartmouth Railway to work at the Diesel Event on 26-27 April. The 25 has not worked anywhere else in preservation. Also making an appearance at the event will be Cotswold Rails 33202 and Advenza Freights 47237.

Bedale Railway Engines Ltd (BRE) have been placed into liquidation and the company assets will be made available for disposal. It is highly likely that 37403 and 37414 will be sold for scrap.

D5705 has been hauled out of the Bury Transport Museum and has been covered pending transfer to Buckley Wells where restoration will begin. A photo is here. The first working party on D5705 will be held over the weekend of 24/25 May. If you want to get involved please contact Chris Tatton
A revision to the Swanage Railway Diesel Event line-up is that 73107 will replace 33111, which will not be ready in time. The ED will also work the visiting convoy to and from the railway. 56311 (ex 56057) will be making its debut in its new guise courtesy of Hanson Traction and will top and tail the Friday night beer-ex services with 37275. Saturday nights beer-ex train will be operated by 37906, whilst 07007 will work the Norden to Harmans Cross shuttle services all weekend.

50026 has been re-united with its bogies as repairs to its underframe near completion at the RVEL workshops in Derby. Photos can be seen here. The loco will visit a yet to be announced preserved railway for running in. The owner of 50026 has also recently acquired the remains of 50040 for the salvage of remaining parts before the loco is sent for scrap.
20169 at Kirkby Stephen East has been started for the first time following a full rebuild of the power unit. The loco requires further attention to electrical equipment before and attempt is made at taking power. Work is also underway to start 37146 for the first time since purchase from EWS.
The SRPS tour between North Berwick and Mallaig planned for the 10th May with 55022 has been re-scheduled for the 24th May.

Mark Elderkin Railtours are operating a trip on May 26 taking D1015 to Weymouth from Paddington via Bristol. Further details and a booking form is here. The same promoter is operating two mini-tours out of Manchester Victoria on June 14th and July 26th featuring 40145 on the first and 55022 in July. 27066 and 24081 have left the Nene Valley Railway and have arrived at Toddington ready to take part in the railways diesel event on April 4-6. Photos here and here. A1A Locomotives in conjunction with the Nene Valley Railway will be be using 31271 to haul the 1430 and 1615 x Wansford with Mk 1s on Saturday April 5th. The Class 15 Preservation Society, ELR Diesel Department & Co-Bo Locomotive Group have announced that agreement has been reached for the team currently restoring Class 15 D8233 at the East Lancashire Railway in Bury to also undertake the initial restoration on Metrovick Co-Bo D5705 also based at the ELR. Both projects have similar restoration needs, therefore running the restorations side by side, utilising the vast skill base within the ELR diesel department and C15PS will benefit both projects. D5705 will be shunted into position with D8233 at the Loco Works site on the ELR in early May so work can begin. 45108 has begun its journey from Crewe to the Midland Railway Centre having been hauled to the Heritage Centre from the LNWR Carriage sidings today. The loco will complete its move to Butterley by road.

The NRM at Shildon is holding a diesel weekend on April 13-14 which will feature 20050 37003 and D1023 and well as shunters and a visiting EWS class 60. More details are here

E6006 hauling an engineers train on March 10th became the first train to traverse the Severn Valley Railway from end to end since June last year after storms badly damaged many sections of the railway. The railway will to re-open to passengers later this month.

33053 has left the Nene Valley Railway and moved to Shackerstone for repairs following its failure at the Nene Valley Diesel Event.

D1010 will not be available for the 2008 WSR season after investigations have found further problems with the 'B' engine requiring a complete strip down and rebuild. The work by the DEPG at Williton is being undertaken whilst the group also repair two Hymeks one of which, D7017 will make a return to traffic later this year.
Driving courses on the Severn Valley Railway are available for 2008 with either D1013 or D1062. Course dates are Friday 4th July, Friday 11th July, Friday 25th July, Friday 15th August and Friday 29th August. More details are here

The Class 15 Preservation Society have produced a number of Microsoft Trainsim Add-on packs which are being sold to raise funds for the continuing restoration of D8233 at Bury. The latest pack is titled 40's in Blue and features 26 different Class 40 locos to drive on your PC. A number of other add-on packs are also available. 40012 is unable to attend the Great Central Railway 1960's Event this month as a result of problems booking the road transportation, although it is still planned for the loco to arrive at Loughborough in time for the railways three day diesel event in April.
47703 will have a 'farewell' run on the Wensleydale on Sunday March 9th. The train will leave Leeming Bar at 1450 and returns back again around 1700 after a round trip. The train will run subject to the usual caveats. Contact for the train is specialtrain@yahoo.co.uk
The Swanage TC Groups unit has now arrived safely at the Midland Railway - Butterley and it is hoped to have the unit in service soon.

37254 will be making its first runs in preservation at the Spa Valley Railway's ‘Spring Diesel Weekend' on 26/27 April. The loco is nearing the end of a five year overhaul and it is anticipated that the locomotive will move from its restoration base to Tunbridge Wells during March.

The Class 40 Appeal have launched a 'D212 Bogie Repair Fund' which aims to fund repairs to 40012's long standing bogie cracks that have prevented the loco from leaving the MRC by rail since 1995. More details are here
73128 is to move from the Chasewater Railway to the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway for a year long loan. The road movement will take place during March.
20227 has arrived back at Butterley after a loan spell with London Underground Ltd at West Ruislip.

40145 will visit the Nene Valley Railway on 19/20 April joining 40106 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of D200's inaugural run from Liverpool Street to Norwich on 18th April 1958. There will be five class 40 hauled round trips on each day with a day rover costing £13.

37418 has left Toton and has been transported to the Allelys Hauliers yard for temporary storage until such time as resources are available with HNRC at Barrow Hill to undertake a bogie change, although it planned to undertake some mechanical work on the loco before it goes to Barrow Hill. Once fully operational the loco will be based at the East Lancs Railway. A photo is here
37219 is to move from the Chasewater Railway to a new home at the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway where the locos owner already has 37116 based. The move is expected to take place next week.
27066 and 33053 have moved from their respective bases and joined 24081 at Wansford ready to take part in next weekends Diesel Event. Photos here here and here.

37079 which was due to leave Barrow Hill for restoration this month has been subjected to the theft of all traction motor cabling during the locos storage at Barrow Hill and as a result the proposed sale has been cancelled with the full agreement of all parties.
The Bodmin & Wenford Railway have announced that a Colas Rail Class 47 will be the guest loco at their Diesel Event on April 5-6 and the former 'City of Truro' - 47749 has been requested to work alongside residents 37142, 47306 and 50042.
WSR resident 33057 was started for the first time in twelve years at Williton on Saturday with the engine running with no major problems and the loco even took power, albeit moving only a few inches. Much work remains to be done before the loco can enter service including a re-wire and the customary repairs to BRCW bodywork.

The North Yorkshire Moors Diesel Event on May 9-11 will feature visiting locos 20189 20227 46045 D1015 and 55019 with one further visitor to be confirmed, these will work alongside 25278 37350 and 50027. As per last year the event will also be extended onto the Whitby - Battersby section of the mainline with the 25, Western and Deltic including two train running on Sunday utilising both 55019 and D1015. More details will be made available in due course.
Wensleydale based 47715 completed a successful light engine test run from Leeming Bar to Bedale and return on Thursday.

A new section has been added to the site to assist preservation groups in sourcing parts and services to assist them with their aims and objectives with regard to locomotive restoration and maintenance. 47761 has been hauled from Margam to Butterley, via a stop over at Gloucester, by 57005. The loco was purchased from EWS by the 47401 Project in April last year. The long term plan is for the loco is to be stripped for spares including donating its bogies to 47417, although it is possible the former 47564 may make some farewell runs at the MR-B prior to this.
33002 has had its turbocharger returned over the weekend, the unit having been rebuilt into a replacement casing. The SDDT have also recently returned Class 122 'Bubble Car' 55000 to active service. Photos here here and here
The Llangollen Railway are holding their Spring Diesel Event on 11-13 April and the visiting loco will be Pullman ED 73101. The event will also see the full return to service of 25313 following engine repairs.

37905 has left the EMR scrapyard in Kingsbury today and has made the relatively short journey to Shackerstone on the Battlefield Line.
D1015 left Tyseley yesterday and ran light engine to Reading, spending the night on the depot before continuing to Old Oak Common this morning. Photos here and here
47773 hauled 86259 from Tyseley to Oxley yesterday where the 86 was powered up with no problems in readiness for the locos railtour next month.
33053 is nearing the end of its cooler group repairs and once complete the loco will be moving to Wansford to take part in the NVR Diesel Event on 1/2 March. A photo is here
The visiting loco for the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway Diesel Event on April 4-6 will be the DFR's 27066. The event should also see the return to traffic of 47376 after engine repairs.
The East Lancashire Railway are holding a Nightrider in conjunction with the Spring Diesel event on March 15/16. All available locos will be in use during the day with 55022 and 50015 sharing the 'night' duties. More details are here

33109 returned to trafic at the East Lancs Railway on Saturday making its first runs for nearly seven years. The loco last hauled passenger trains when based at the Mid Hants Railway. Photos are here

37505 has had a short stay in preservation having been transported by road from the Eden Valley Railway to the EMR scrapyard in Kingsbury. The loco was secured for preservation from Thompsons scrapyard in Stockton last August.
A change to the Swanage Railway Diesel Event line up is that 37275 is to replace 45060 as the Peak will not be availalble because of on-going main generator repairs.

37905 has been secured for preservation and will be moving to the Battlefield line shortly where a swift return to working order is expected. The 'Slug' currently resides in the EMR scrapyard at Kingsbury.
37250 has left Tyne Yard by road and has been transported to the Eden Valley Railway at Warcop.
The Great Central Railway have announced that this years visiting diesel will be the CFA's 40012. The loco has not been away from Butterley for a number of years and is expected to arrive at the GCR in time to take part in the lines 1960's Event on March 14-16.
Nemesis Rails 33021 was hauled south to Tyseley on Monday where it has joined 31422 on the Maintrain depot. Both locos will be heading to Meldon for use on the Dartmoor Railway. Prior to the 'Crompton' leaving Barrow Hill, 45112 completed its journey to the roundhouse from Derby the previous day behind 31454.
Swanage Railway based 33034 has been the target of metal thieves and has had most copper and brass pipework and fittings stolen. The loco is kept as a source of spares for 33012 but was potentially a restoration project but in light of the theft the future of the loco is uncertain.
The Swanage TC group are making a final appeal for a unforseen £1000 shortfall in the sum required to allow the unit to leave its current storage location and move to Butterley. If you are able to assist please contact alister.bettsATbtinternet.com (replace AT with @)
47773 will work a additional mini railtour on 1st March in connection with the mainline debut in preservation of 86259 - more details are here
The Dean Forest Railway are operating a number of 'Branchline Experience Days' during 2008 where course members will be have the opportunity to experience all aspects of railway operation including driving the loco and operating the signalling equipment. More details are here

D9504 has moved from the Nene Valley Railway and taken up a post as shunting loco at Bardon Hill Quarry.
Barry Island based D9521 is to spend the summer on a visit to the Mid Norfolk Railway - a number of running days with the loco have already been announced.
37109 has completed two return trips light engine Bury to Heywood with no major problems coming to light. A recent photo is here
The Clayton steam generators ex-37051 and 37114 have been acquired for preservation and moved to Bo'ness where, once overhauled and certified, one of the units will return to use in 37175. The second unit will be restored over a longer period of time, for eventual use in 37003.

The Swanage TC group now have the finance in place to allow the unit to move by road to Butterley, thereby securing its long term future. The TC will remain at Butterley for use on the MR-B services until such time that space at Swanage will allow it to return to Southern metals.
45112 was hauled from Meldon to Gloucester yesterday by 31454 with the ultimate destination for the peak being Barrow Hill where the loco will undergo repairs and have OTDR equipment fitted. A photo is here
The 71A Locomotive Group are investigating the possibility of returning Swanage based 33012 (D6515) to the mainline. The loco has recently had a full bodywork overhaul and more mechanical work is planned or 2008 with funds being sought to fit the relevant safety equipment required for the mainline. 37250 has been purchased for preservation by two members of the 24061 Preservation Group and will move from storage in Tyne Yard to its new home once details are finalised. The loco is expected to be made operational in a short timescale.
Former ELR regular D5600 (31435) has moved from Newton Heath depot to a new home at the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway. The loco had been undergoing repairs at Newton Heath TMD after moving there for display at an open day and now joins two of the owning groups other locos 31119 and 47004 at Embsay. Also leaving the ELR is 08445 which is understood to have moved to Newton Heath.
The Swanage TC Group have received a boost in their quest to move their 4-TC to Butterley for restoration in the shape of a £5000 loan, however this still leaves the group short of the total required to complete the move and avoid incurring further storage charges, if you would like to make a donation please contact alister.bettsATbtinternet.com (replace AT with @)

The Dartmoor Railway are holding and Industrial day on Saturday 2nd February 2008 featuring 08874 08937 and steam engine 'Darfield No. 1'. There will be a passenger service between Sampford Courtenay, Okehampton and Meldon featuring all locos and demonstration freights between Okehampton and Meldon. It is anticipated that 08874 will leave the line during February.
The Barry Island Railway are holding a Shunter Day on March 1st 2008 when the traction will be D9521, 08511, Hunslet 6688 and Hudswell 8526 "Bill Caddick". Brake van rides available, GatEx and Mk1 rake. More details are here
08915 will be in use at the Colne Valley Railway on March 9th - trains run from 1130 & then every 30 mins until 1530
Forthcoming Events
The Bodmin & Wenford Railway will be holding its Spring Diesel Event on April 5/6. 08444, 37142, 47306 and 50042 will be the home fleet locos with the possibility of a visiting mainline loco. More details are here
The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway diesel event on June 6-8 June will see a convoy from Devon in the shape of 20110 25262 31108 and 37037. DRS will also provide locos for the event.

The Swanage Railway have confirmed the line-up for their Diesel Event on May 9-11 with visiting locos being 07007 20096 33111 37906 45060 and 56057. Resident locos working will be 08436 33012 and 47635. SWT 4-Vep 3417 will also be making a second visit to the line. There will be an intensive three train service run from 9am each until midnight on Fri and Sat (18:30 on Sun) using an all diesel timetable. Tickets will be £15 per day, but if purchased in advance there are disounts avaliable for 2 (£25) or 3 (£35) day rover tickets. Vintage Trains are running a railtour on the Saturday with connects with a bus at Wareham. Details here

47715 which is now located at the Wensleydale Railway has been sold into preservation by its previous owners. The loco was run up for the first time over the weekend. Photo and details are here
37407 has been purchased privately for preservation and possibly 37413 will join it although one is understood to be for spares only.
D1015 ran from Tavistock Junction to Tyseley yesterday hauling Colas Rail 47727. D1015 is to undergo tyre turning having been unable to get a 'slot' on the wheel lathe at Laira. A photo is here

47703 will work a round trip on the Wensleydale Railway on Sunday 6th January. The loco will work the 1435 Leeming Bar - Redmire and return.
