50 017 Royal Oak
Loco Owner Dave Cunningham and his team of volunteers are currently completing the repaint of 50 017 into original Network South East livery. The work has been taken place over the past 14 months and the bodywork overhaul has included stripping the bodywork back to bare metal and extensive replating and refabricating work. After months of preparation work, the final coats of gloss are now being applied. The loco vinyls have been ordered from Rail Traction Supplies in addition to new air filter pads and fuel filter element and seals.
The following photos from Dave Cunningham show recent progress:
D6948 (37 248)
After many months of work and preparation by the restoration team, Sunday 6th November was a major milestone in the project to restore D6948 to as built condition. A successful boiler first steaming took place in the afternoon with the boiler exhaust running clean and plenty of steam being produced. A very rewarding sight and sound for all involved.
The main steam pipe along the side of the loco remains to be installed and all buffer beam connections/fittings. Work continues on the buffer beam skirt templates ready for cutting steel in the near future. The loco also now sports round buffers at both ends.
50 026 Indomitable
Rarely seen outside of the workshop at Eastleigh, Mark V Pike has sent in the following photo of 50026 during a quick shunt manoeuvre 25/11/11.
After a long period of inactivity 47701 stands at Okehampton with a rake of Mark II stock being prepared for a private birthday charter that evening. It is planned for 47701 to be used for Santa and mince pie specials throughout December. Photo from Paul Siobhan:
Restoration work has started to return 37250 to service at Leeming Bar. The following photo was taken by Bill Pizer on the 20/11/11. The loco has a Facebook page here

Type 1 on Tanks
On 19/11/11 D8059 was used to move a couple of tank wagons from Highley to Arley in connection with the forthcoming Santa Event. Bill Pizer’s photos follow: D8059 and brakevan approach Highley, waiting to depart Highley with the 12.00 ‘tanks’ to Arley, shunting the tanks at Arley.
A couple of David Coombs shots from last Saturday taken at Arley and Highley. The 20 worked through to Bridgnorth with the both and then propelled the brakevan back to Arley.
